On Friday, April 26th, Barack Obama was awarded Kenya’s highest honor. The award is called ‘The Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya.’
Previous recipients include UN Secretary General Koffi Annan, His Highness Aga Khan (Spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslims, and Sports Minister Ochillo Ayacko.
Reasons cited for the award include ‘his (President Obama) unflagging dedication to the spiritual peace of the world,’ and ‘in appreciation for his tireless efforts to promote the brotherhood of mankind.’
The award was presented during a ceremony in Nairobi, and an unnamed member of the US state department received the award for Mr. Obama.
That Mr. Obama has received such accolades from a foreign country is not unusual, and that it was deserved was made apparent in the speech given by the head of the Ambosi National Park and Conservancy Department, Maasai Mara.
“Your president Obama has given us much. Tourism is up thanks to the many people wanting to see the hut he was born in, and we are making great sales in voodoo dolls. It is only fitting and right that we present this great man with our highest honor.” Mr. Mara then went on to explain about military grants afforded his government, and the appointment of his own son to Annapolis.
